Hi, Rana. How
are you doing?
|
Rana
|
Fine. Where are
you going? Are you busy?
|
Raju
|
Not so much.
Why?
|
Rana
|
I wanted to ask
you something?
|
Raju
|
Yeah, sure.
|
Rana
|
Do you know
anything about cultural assault [নিগ্রহের]?
|
Raju
|
Yes, I’ve some
idea.
|
Rana
|
Please, tell me.
|
Raju
|
OK. First of
all, as you may already know that Culture stands for the pre-determined
notions, norms, values, beliefs, customs, conventions, music, language and
ways of behaviour of persons living in a particular zone.
|
Rana
|
Yes, I know
that.
|
Raju
|
Again, we have
our own food habits like rice and fish as well as ways of eating. We have our
traditional dress like longyi, dhuti, shirt and punjabi for the male and
sharee and blouse for the female. Eid, puja, Buddha Purnima, Christmas Day,
Victory Day, Pahela Baishakh, Nabanna and Halkhata are some of our distinguished
[বিশিষ্ট] festivals. All
these are our culture and cultural traits [বৈশিষ্ট্যগুলো].
|
Rana
|
Fine. But what
do you really mean by cultural assault?
|
Raju
|
On the contrary,
culture which is not known and practised in a society is called alien [ভিনদেশি] culture. All
alien cultures are not detrimental [ক্ষতিকর] to a society. A
native culture may be enriched and ameliorated [উন্নীত] enough with the
influence of some alien cultures. But some cultures have profound [গভীর] impact [প্রভাব] on other
cultures that might be harmful and then it will be a cultural assault.
|
Rana
|
Anything else?
|
Raju
|
Cultural assault
means bad influence [প্রভাব] of foreign
cultures on any native culture. In the present global world, it is quite
tough to impede [প্রতিরোধ] this cultural aggression
[আগ্রাসন]. With the development of hi-tech media, it has been very easy for a
society to be infiltrated [অনুপ্রবেশ] by alien
cultures. Many of the cultural elements may be influenced in this way.
|
Rana
|
I get it now. I was
a bit confused. Now, its clear to me. Thank you.
|
Raju
|
Never mind.

Dialogue on cultural assault
Monday, March 23, 2020
Price Rise / Price Hike
Price Rise is the bane
[সর্বনাশ]
of modern world. Price of essential commodities
[পণ্য]
go on rising every day despite the professed and
genuine efforts of the government. The main reason for sky-rocketing of prices
is the unabated [অক্ষুণ্ণ] rise
in population at an alarming rate. As compared to China, Bangladesh has failed
miserably in controlling her population. Another reason for price-rise is the
huge loss of man-days as a result of frequent strikes and lock-outs in the
industrial units. This leads to short fall in production. An average Bangladeshi
has considerably awakened to the reality of raising his living standard in the
matter of eating, housing, medical aid and providing education to his children.
He is also fond of recreation through T.V., V.C.R cinema, transistor etc. All
this expenditure pushes up the rate of living. The hoarders, stockers and black
marketers also push up prices by causing artificial scarcity
[অভাব]
in the market. The government should take some drastic
[আমূল]
steps to keep prices under control.
