Once there lived an old farmer lived in a village. He had four sons.
They were in the habit of leading a very idle life. They would never do any
work. The farmer did not know how to make them work. So he was unhappy.
One day on his death bed, he hit upon a plan. He called his sons to his
bed side and said, “My sons go to the field. I have hidden a great treasure
there. Dig the field and you will find it.”
The boys ran to the field at once. They dug the entire field but found
no treasure there. Then they said, “Since we have dug the field, we may plant
some corn there.” So they planted the field with corn.
In due time, golden corn came out and the sons became happy. They understood
then meaning of the hidden treasure of their father. From that time they began
to work hard.
