Bangladesh is a land of natural calamities [দুর্যোগ]. Every year earthquake flood, cyclone, drought
[খরা]
etc visit our country. The word ‘Alia’ means dolphin. Aila is one kind of
cyclonic storm. It was the second tropical
[গ্রীষ্মপ্রধান]
cyclone of the 2009 season. It was created by tidal [জলোচ্ছ্বাস]
surge [ঢেউ]
of the Bay of Bangal. Aila violently [হিংস্র]
hit 14 districts on the south –western parts of Bangladesh and west Bengal in
India on 25th May 2009. The coastal [উপকূলীয়]
areas of Bangladesh were largely damaged by Aila. It was more serious than many
other cyclones. The cyclone ‘Aila’ broke all the records of the past. It had
caused a great damage to crops, property and wild animals. Houses, cattle and
other animals were washed away. Trees were uprooted [নির্মূল
করা] and roads and crops went
under water. Thousands of people became homeless, shelter less, foodless, cloth
less. Many people and wild animals died. Our government took proper steps to
help the affected people. The government also wanted help from foreign [বৈদেশিক]
countries. They have also extended [বিস্তার]
their help. During Aila both people and young students helped the affected
people in many ways. In fact, Aila was a
terrible [ভয়াবহ]
cyclone. The people of our country will
never forget it.
