Child trafficking [পাচার] is a crime against humanity. Trafficking
in persons is nothing short of modern-day slavery [দাসত্ব]. It is, therefore, not only a problem for Bangladesh but rather it is a
global problem. The most common forms of human trafficking in Bangladesh are,
among others: trafficking for sexual exploitation [শোষণ], forced prostitution [বেশ্যাবৃত্তি], domestic servitude [ক্রীতদাসত্ব], forced labour and other forms of exploitation. Child trafficking is
now considered [বিবেচনা করা] one of the major concerns [উদ্বেগ] for Bangladesh. However, various studies reveal [প্রকাশ] that over 1 million women and children have been trafficked out of the
country in the last 30 years. A UNICEF report says that approximately [প্রায়] 400 women and children in Bangladesh are victims [শিকার] of trafficking each month. Both internal
[অভ্যন্তরীণ] and cross-border [সীমান্তের] trafficking exist in Bangladesh. In the
case of internal trafficking, women and children are often taken away from
their homes on false promises of a better life with good employment or by using
various other criminal acts and means by the traffickers who sell them to brothels
[পতিতালয়]. It is mainly people from rural areas
with minimal survival options and those who suffer the worst from discriminatory
[বৈষম্য] socio-cultural practices who are lured [প্রলুব্ধ] or deceived [প্রতারিত] with promises of a better life and more lucrative
[লাভজনক] job opportunities [সুযোগ] in cities. At the cross-border level,
victims are transported and transferred to destinations [গন্তব্য] further away such as India, Pakistan and
Middle Eastern countries, by using illegal [অবৈধ] acts and processes which culminate [চরম মাত্রায় পৌঁছানো] in the most corrosive [ক্ষয়] forms of human rights violations [লঙ্ঘন] and a life of unspeakable agony [যন্ত্রণা] and torture.
