A street hawker is a person who sells goods by
hawking from street to street. A street hawker is very common and well known in
our country both in the towns and in the villages. He is a small trader [ব্যবসায়ী]. He lives from hand to mouth.
He earns his livelihood by hawking from street to street. Generally, he carries
a box full of different toys, ribbons, flutes, and bangles [চুড়ি] etc. for the children and
different kinds of cosmetics for the women. The children and the women are the
main and common customers of a street hawker. He has an attractive voice to
draw the attention of his customers. He sometimes changes his voice based on
situation. He sells his goods at a very mere [নিছক] profit. He works the whole
day. He never knows any rest in his life. Though he works hard, he earns a
little. And with that small income he can barely [কোনো মতে] support his family. He leads
a very miserable life. When he becomes ill and cannot go out for hawking, he
and his family have to starve [অনাহারে থাকা]. The rain and the sun
sometimes betray him in his work. Though a street hawker is a small trader, we
should not look down upon him. Instead we should respect him and his work.
