A street beggar is a person who begs alms [ভিক্ষা] from street to street to earn
his livelihood. A street beggar is very common and well known in our country
both in the towns and in the villages. He is a very needy [অভাব গ্রস্ত] person. He is generally seen
in the crowds like haats, bazaars, bus stands, and railway stations etc. and
sometimes door to door. He is seen with his torn and shabby [জীর্ণ] clothes. He is seen as such
he has not bathed for several weeks. He goes to people, stretches his hand with
a begging bowl to get some alms. He recites ‘Kalema’ loudly and begs by the
name of the Almighty Allah. He prays for them who give him something. The old
and inactive beggar is mostly seen with his stuff or a boy to help him. There
are many kinds of beggars. Some are blind, some are dumb and deaf and some are invalid
[পঙ্গু]. But still some beggars are
young and active. We should not encourage [উৎসাহিত করা] the young ones to beg.
However, a street beggar leads a very miserable life. When he becomes ill and
cannot go out for begging, he and his family have to starve. Though begging
does not help the economy of our country, we should not hate them.
